This looks like a good place to set up and pratice this particular Web 2.0 tool. I've had an idea floating around my head, for a wiki that would be useful to my workplace. I feel it would be a better way to communicate thoughout the the organisation, and the public. I'm sure libraries around the world and inthe Uk are already doing it, but the IT guy at work, when I mentioned the idea , Pooh Poohed it , the main reason seemd to be that we have to keep to set standards on line set by the council.
I understand that, but with the current economic climate, we need away to make our department more efficent and cost productive,(.esp considering we are not profiltmaking department).
So will try my idea out, in my on time, presumabley like this blog it can be private from the public, untill needed...
in the meantime here is the link to Wikispaces...

The Quest continues
Well have slowely continued my quest to become more skilled. I've been conntected on "Linked In".joining lots of relevent groups, contributing to discussions.
I posted on Cilip's Career development group a question about upskilling and seems noody uses that group as there hasn't been any reply posts.
I've made sure my profile is up to date. I read an article on linkedin profile which said it was a good idea to regulalry update you profile summary, but I haven't been able to think of any way of changing mine.
Also bought "dale carnegie's How to win Friends and influence people, now have to read it!

I am a Librarian!
Well, it's been a verrry long time since I posted. In fact I had become bored with the idea, couldn't think of anything to say.
Well I'm back! Happy to say I graduated my MSC library studies course, passed my dissertation with "Merit".Not top of the class but happy with my achievement. I learnt heaps, and was stretched to the limit, intellectually....however happy to have completed my studies I went into relaxation mode and became rather a couch potato.
It's not all bad news and popcorn in the couch cushions, however. I have keep up with the world of the librarian and worked hard in my job. I have since moved up two positions and am now a Librarian in charge(sometimes and with a jobshare partner in crime), of a small but vital public library.
I am recieving a baptism of fire in my new position -actually born out of Goverment cuts.We are struggling to help staff remain postive in light of extensive changes, both in resources and responsibilities.
I have decided that with the current econmnic climate I'd better get back to the learning and development of the transferable skills needed to be a Librarian of the world.
So in researching the continued development of my skills I've come across this blog. I shall aim to regularly post and play around with it as a way to get to grips with this particular Web 2.0 tool.
I have also begun a separate blog to cater for my Scifi interests, and will aim to post my thoughts on scifi and fantasy books there , with the view of possibly using such a blog for my job....

Study, dissertations, headaches housemates
Just had an Idea that I could use this blog to track my ideas and progress for my dissertation and maybe fidddle about learning how to blog and practice with other social networking tools too.
I am currently struggling with 3 assignments for Uni, but am feeling positive about them at the moment-only three weeks till hand in date!
My lovely new flatmate has kindly offered to cook dinner..all my moaning did it!
Dissertation topic: My topic I have finally decided on is:
Can Libraries Reach Excluded Communities? an examination into Islington Libraries Community project "New Horizons"
I will hopefully be able to interview staff and customers, maybe do a survey as well. I will find out the background to the project, why they started it-how they got the idea-did they see something similar elswhere or come uo with it on their own?
I will do my own research into other similar projects, and using all the data I find-analys how the project has gone-has it improved lives? are these communities now using "proper" libraries? and more....
First I have to write a decent proposal-I guess expand on alot of what I has just been rambling about. then its on with it!
however before I even start with that-it's back to my current assignemnts due May 2nd! argh-info society here I come!

is it summer yet?
sun in the sky
birds fly by
warmth in air
as i hear
the sounds of summer
approaching........
bumblebees in the trees
and DI.Y. hammering, puleaze!
lazy, chilling on the grass
that's the life - the sun
.......at last
